New Terminal at Alicante El Altet Airport
Opened in 2011, the new Alicante airport, known as the El Altet international airport, is the most modern structure of its kind in Spain, with a capacity for 20 million passengers per year. The new terminal, El Altet’s luxurious facilities covers 8 floors, topped by 20 spectacular large glass domes. The overall investment in extension work cost around €670 million which is being paid by the central government of Spain and the area will increase sixfold (from 54,800sqm to 333,500sqm). The number of check in desks will increase from 53 to 96, passport control points from 17 to 32 and the number of boarding gates will triple, from 5 to 15.
Shopping And Eating At Alicante El Altet Airport
Alicante’s new airport terminal will have increased shopping and commercial areas including a new restaurant run by the Michelin star chef Quique Dacosta called “Aire Tapasbar”, (Quique Dacosta was born in Caceres, but has since made the Alicante province his home, thanks to his establishment “El Poblet” located in Denia on the North Costa Blanca).
Other confirmed outlets are Starbucks, Diesel, Hugo Boss, Armani, Polo, Pepe Jeans, DKNY, Timberland, Subway, Telepizza, Cantia Mariachi, Istabul Kebab, Burger King, Valor Chocolates and Rodilla Sandwiches. In addition, El Corte Ingles will be selling shoes and toiletries and there will also be a Swarovski Jewellers.
